
The international Summer school on the “Sustainable Ecosystem Usage of Eurasian Ecotone, Mongolia” was held on July 16th- 26th, 2010 in Mongolia. The international summer school had 45 participants from various universities, research institutes and regulatory agencies, and included participants from Japan, China, Russia, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Mongolia. Actually, more than 70 applicants were applying to the summer school but we were select only 24 participator except instructs due to safety of summer school. During 10 days we had working as following schedule:
• July 16 – 17th, Pre-lectures at Ulaanbaatar city
• July 18 – 24th, Group works for the field work and modeling course
• July 25 – 26th, Discussion and presentation.
The IFES-GCOE summer school “Sustainable Ecosystem Usage of Eurasian Ecotone, Mongolia” was provided experiences for all attendants to understand and consider ongoing ecosystem degradation in Mongolia, through having fruitful discussions and exchanging ideas with those who work in different fields. We have been prepared the several research topics listed below, for which various methodologies with many scientific backgrounds are possible.
Theme of Group No. 1: Changing permafrost & its related landform modification in case area of Chuluut river basin, Mongolia
Theme of group No. 2: The role of fire for forest structure, composition, biomass dynamics and CO2 responses
Theme of group No. 3: Usage & recovery process of Mongolian pasture with socio-economic background
Theme of group No. 4: Local- & Regional scale hydrometeorology (water cycle) of Mongolia.
Theme of group No. 5: Environmental pollution of Mongolia
The summer school had very successful held in Mongolia and it has strengthened the communication and cooperation between researchers and students, we had fruitful experience and discussion each others in during summer school.
